BSL Introductory Class - 22 October 2011
A big thank you to Tracy who stepped in at the last minute to teach the BSL introductory class on Saturday. A big thankyou to Christone as well for helping and for Glenda who organised it all and kept us all supplied with refreshements throughout the session.
Chat Helpline from NDCS
The UK's first Live Chat Helpline on childhood deafness, www.ndcs.co.uk/livechat, is a secure and confidential service, providing clear and balanced information and advice on matters including audiology, pre-school support, education, local services, welfare and technology.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday: 9.30am to 5pm.
CBBC’s Live ‘n’ Deadly
BBC Learning, in partnership with CBBC’s Live ‘n’ Deadly, are currently producing a tour of 10 Deadly Days Out. CBBC audiences are invited to come along and learn about the natural world as well as trying out adventure activities for free. These events are for children aged between 6-12, accompanied by parents and guardians and they will have a BSL interpreter on stage at each event.
The closest event to Leicester is on Sunday 6th November 2011 at Monkey Forest, Staffordshire.
You will need to apply for tickets via www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc, where tickets are allocated by a random draw. The closing date for applying for tickets is Sunday 30th October 2011.

LDCS visit the Freemasons - Saturday 18 June 2011
Members of the LDCS committee where invited to recieve a cheque on behalf of the LDCS to fund a day trip to Drayton Manor for deaf children and their families.
The Presentation Morning was on 18th June 2011 at the Freemason’s Hall in Leicester. The cheque was presented by the Provincial Grand Master, David Hagger, to Tina, Ray and Emma.

London Marathon - Sunday 17 April 2011
Bill Howes raised £418 for the LDCS this year when he ran the London Marathon. Bill is a well experienced marathon runner having completed more than 200 marathons and has raised a lot of money for worthy causes. In August he also ran the Comrades Marathon in South Africa which is 56 miles long.
A big thank you to Bill from the LDCS.

Parents of Deaf children and other interested parties run LDCS, for all Deaf children from birth upwards and their families. We provide social activities consisting of day and weekend trips, Christmas party and a youth club.
The fact that some of us are parents of Deaf Children gives us a unique perspective. Our beliefs, values and opinions are as a result of the practical experience of raising a deaf child. From pre-diagnosis through diagnosis to decisions about communication and education etc. – we know how it can feel.
Please feel free to contact us about any aspect of raising your child. It we are unable to help, we should be able to provide you with a contact number of someone who can.
